Things I learned about my closet:
- It really needed a good purge. About 40% of its contents were moved to other sensible locations around the home or they went out the door.
- I didn’t need the hanging organizer, which took valuable space away from clothing. Since I share the closet with Silverback, it makes more sense to have as much hanger space as possible.
- When I spacebagged the winter gear (snowpants, thermals, turtlenecks) and put them in the attic, I was able to make good use of the shelf they were cluttering.
- All of the contents of the top shelf were purged, leaving space for a few sweaters, a bedspread, and accessory boxes.
Things I learned about my wardrobe:
- Most of my clothes are ancient! My very favorite shirt (which I actually get compliments on) is 18 years old. It is worn out in just the right places and I still love it, so I’m keeping it.
- Everything is brown, black, and gray. That doesn’t reflect my sparkling personality at all. Where is all the color? Wouldn’t something a bit brighter reflect the real me?
- I have beautiful pieces that don’t match anything. When I shop, I need to keep these items in mind. If I could find the right partner pieces, I’d have an entirely new wardrobe.
I don’t actually enjoy clothes-shopping, but I took the opportunity while undergoing this process to spend that birthday money this week. I hit the clearance racks at the mall and found a few good deals. Then I splurged on a pink blouse that I just loved.
BUT… before adding anything new, I donated some items that I don’t love, as well as some kid’s clothes that we no longer need.
AND… just for you, Tricia, the purple, butter-stained maternity T went in the trash. But, I did wear it one more time Tuesday night under my sweatshirt. For old time’s sake.
